Social Media milestone: 500 followers on Instagram!
We are taking a moment to toot our own horn to celebrate a social media milestone. The main ingredients in building a contemporary concrete skatepark are Community, Location, and Funding. Today we are celebrating community. 500 Instagram followers may not mean much to Beyoncé, but in the second least populated state in the US and in a town with a population less than 10,000 it means a lot.
Instagram followers obviously don’t translate directly to skatepark participants, but it does legitimize our research and support our cause. We used the skatepark adoption model to estimate the number of casual (323) and core (125) skatepark participants based on the combined population of Addison Central School District towns which is 15,618. We used that same population to determine our recommended level of service which we rounded up slightly to settle on a 7500 square foot footprint. All of these numbers are conservative estimates and don’t account for other wheeled participants or the fact that Vermont skews higher than the national average for skateboarding participation.
Beyond the number crunching, 500 followers illustrates that we have widespread support within our community and beyond. It means that 53 people in attendance at our very first public meeting way back in April of 2022 wasn’t a fluke. It hopefully means that we’ll maintain our momentum and that we’ll soon be celebrating the funding ingredient as well.
